Welcome to Open Gate Acres! We raise beef, chicken, flowers and other goods on our family farm near Chariton, Iowa.

A flower farm has always been a dream for us and 2026 was the year we decided to follow our flower field dreams. Already being row crop and cattle farmers, we know how the weather controls everything. 2026 has been a crazy weather year in Lucas County. We had some delays in getting the field plowed/tilled, more delays in getting seedlings in the ground. Once all seedlings were planted, we got 12 inches of rain over a few days along with hail. We thought for sure the flowers were going to be a total loss this year. However, they came back and look so good! While the stems might be a little wonky, the blooms are brining us so much joy and we cannot wait to share it with the community! We hope to see you out at the flower field soon!
